GERE - Research group on sport, leisure and health management: an initial story

Abstract

Objectives: This is an experience report with the objective of presenting the processes of idealization, creation and development of actions of GERE – Grupo de Pesquisa em Gestão do Esporte, Lazer e Saúde (Research Group on Sports, Leisure and Health Management), linked to the Faculty of Physical Education and Physiotherapy of the Federal University of Uberlândia (FAEFI-UFU). Methodology: Methodologically, the descriptive article, consisting of a timeline of the group's constitution, reporting: group idealization, theoretical perceptions, projects carried out, partnerships, people and achievements. Results and discussion: The main results are the initial difficulties in establishing a new field of study in universities in the interior of Brazil, as well as the importance of carrying out internal and external partnerships with the educational institution to foster this process. In addition, it was observed as a differential the performance of GERE within the scope of the inseparability between research, teaching and extension and active participation in scientific associations. Final Considerations/Conclusion: From the experience reported, it was possible to highlight the importance of establishing research groups for the development of the field of Sports Management in Brazil. As future perspectives, the need to invest in the internationalization of the group's activities and the linking of its members to strictu sensu postgraduate programs is highlighted.
