Abstract

The municipality as a public institution, with presence and scope in the whole territory, acts and constitutes itself as the visible face of the State towards the citizens, fulfilling a relevant task in the promotion of physical and sports activities in the communal context. However, in Chile the current regulations are lax and do not go in depth on the sports function at the municipal level, establishing sport as an optional function, i.e. not mandatory. The objective of the present work is to approach the reality of municipal sports in the Valparaíso Region, to know how the Municipal Sports Services are called, to describe their budgets and the scope of their plans and communal programs of physical activity and sports. A non-experimental, cross-sectional, exploratory-descriptive design was used. In order to obtain the information, a survey was applied to those responsible for municipal sports (n=27), who responded to the instrument. The results showed that the most frequent denominations used were "office" and "Department", while the budget allocated had an average of CLP $78,000,000. Regarding the scope of the programs implemented, an average of 842.4 participants made use of their offer of activities.
