Abstract

Sports management, as an ever-evolving field, plays a crucial role in the efficiency and success of sports organizations. Research in this area is essential for understanding complex dynamics, promoting innovations, and empowering professionals to face challenges in a constantly changing sports scenario. In this sense, the Research Group in Sports and Management (GEquip) of the School of Physical Education at the University of Pernambuco (ESEF/UPE) was founded in 2014 in response to the increasing complexity in sports management, leveraging the Brazilian scenario of mega sports events at the time. Initially focused on characterizing sports managers, GEquip shifted to the perspective of the sports consumer from 2018, filling research gaps at local and national levels. Led by Professors Carlos Augusto Mulatinho de Queiroz Pedroso and Vera Lucia Samico Rocha, the group has become a regional and national reference in sports management research. Participation in national and international conferences, as well as publications in scientific journals, highlight the group's achievements, including relevant awards in Brazilian sports management congresses. Looking ahead, GEquip aims to expand international partnerships and collaborations with sports organizations, aiming for comprehensive research and knowledge exchange. Faculty accreditation in Stricto Sensu programs and deepening research on new technologies applied to sports management are emphasized goals. The group sees the future as an opportunity for expansion, improvement, and positive impact on sports management, maintaining a commitment to innovation, collaboration, and the training of competent professionals.
